A police check result is delayed when an application is flagged for further review. When we submit your police check request to the ACIC, your name, date of birth and your gender are scanned against the police records held in the NSS System (National Police Checking Service Support System) for potential matches. In case you have a common name, or if your name matches with someone who has police history information, then your application is flagged for further review. After which a detailed check is carried out to confirm if the potential match is accurate or not. This may involve investigating police check records held in other state jurisdictions, which may cause delays.
